Her donation of a kidney getting so much attention now surprises me as it happened four months ago? And her dealings with her friend Mr. Oesterle is a personal matter. I try not to get into personal observations on people working for any Government Entity as it just muddies the waters of the professional issue(s).
Was pleasantly surprised to see Mr. Nohe being appointed the State Parole Board? I see two possible pluses for this District and the State for different reasons.
1. We might be a little closer to not just having him pass on paroles for inmates; but the chance we could move him a little more to where in time HE would apply for Parole?
2. This is an excellent decision by the Governor? Why you ask? It gives the Democrats a much better chance of beating a weak and unknown candidate from the Republican side and thereby win back the State Senate. Of course how this plays out will be decided by whom is chosen for the next year.
Now his comment on wanting to be closer to his parents was interesting? I was under the impression they were in this local area? There are several listed as being here; so may I ask the difference between being a State Senator in Charleston and a member of the State Parole Board in Charleston? Or could it be the Salary, benefits and other bene's that were the deciding factors? Sorry after listening to him from 2008 to 2012, I have no belief in anything this guy says. Love of family is beyond reproach; use of family as an excuse to hide one's real agenda seems a little bit of a misstatement?
Can our happy little group mount a credible replacement? Or will the inability to play nice in the sandbox cause an upheaval in the next Election? Remember the Repubs., took the Senate because a Dem., changed parties. So little margin for error. With the Wood County gang in disarray, a knockoff is not an impossibility.
They have 14 days to get their act together. For sure need someone as unqualified as possible to gratify their slighted honor by continuing their internal bickering. Which current Public Official will get the job? Will the Committee go outside the status quo for someone to represent the PEOPLE? IF and I repeat IF the Party hopes to hold this Senate Seat next year, it had best not select another rubber stamp person. We have so many "I will vote whatever you tell me" types now that it is self defeating. People are tired of the sameo- sameo. Or just to make each side of the group happy for a few days? Stay tuned on this one folks. Look at National Surveys and who people are flocking too? Not careerists.
Also see where a large box store is alleged to be cutting back hours on its employees to bring cost back under control? Now this has been a tactic or years by the fast food Shoppe's to keep cost on employees under control; and even has been used by this large store before. But now with profit's down and costs up a new move afoot. In some places like Fort Worth, employees are alleged to be required to take two (2) hour lunches. In a location near Houston, the manager is sending employees home early. This for sure at the moment does not appear to be a ground swell through the entire store system but is starting in any case. It will develop store by store.
Now for an example, if one is making $9./ hours and working 32 hours a week= $288./ week. But if cut back to 28 hours a week= $252./ week. A labor savings of $36./ per employee. The other danger here is that the employee may fall out of what considered a "full time" employee and entitled to Medical Coverage? How could that work for them? The medical may be worth more to them than the money? I for sure have noticed since the pay increase that this particular store does not appear very competitive in its grocery department any more?
Anyone noticing oil is almost back to $50/ barrel? how we are to get $2.00/ gallon gas or less by Xmas could be a bit of a stretch? Have the OPEC folks put enough U.S. Oil drillers on hold to be ready to cut production themselves? Has been an undeclared war against the U.S. oil shale boom for most if not all of this year by OPEC. They kept production up to force our drillers to shut down as cost versus profit each went in wrong direction. Did they win? At $50/ barrel a lot of the big boys via economies of scale will be able to restart some operations. But must question all the little guys who are now unable to repay current loans and so how to get new ones?
Sorry, I had to chuckle at Mr. McKinley as he talked to the "big shots" and made a statement about getting good families to come here to live and how to do it? Yes, Mr. McKinley, this is one of two states consistently losing people and jobs over the past years. What to do to reverse that? GOOD family paying jobs; $9.00- $11.00/ hour is not going to feed the bulldog. Fix our broken education system. People want their kids to do better than they are; isn't going to happen if they cannot read, write, do math or understand what science problem is in their classes? There is in truth almost nothing to keep the youth of the State here or to lure in outsiders. It is a barren place depending more and more on tourism to survive. That is not good if one thinks on it for more than a minute and a half? Yes, I know it is a beautiful, scenic place; but that is again only a tourism ploy. Look at the Governance here; people from other places quickly grow disenchanted with never ending corruption. They were not raised as the Political Journalist from up North said that "West Virginia's expect their Politicians to steal a little bit". So much to offer; but nothing to keep them here. 'nuff said.
