He asked what kind of area do we live in now that someone would steal some hanging plants that only cost about $10./ each? I said "Welcome to Vienna, post Mayberry". I asked if the other person had called the police? He said no, no one would have responded, so not worth the trouble. Now what is sadder than the theft is the lack of confidence in our Police Department. I know they would not respond to my home based on a comment made to me, but I would expect better for other folks down here in the ghetto?.
If anyone should suddenly see a pair of potted ferns show up somewhere, give me a call and I will touch base with the robbed party to see if they are the plants in question? 304.295.4801. I am going to stress no vigilante tactics but hopefully some type of action by the Rapp Pack?
Now as an aside to the above issue, I noted the other day that with that alleged $500,000,000. Million dollar bust of Poppies, that stealing would pick up so addicts could get money for a fix. Now, this is not part of that suspected increase, but shows what could easily happen to whatever one happens to leave just lying around as the price of a fix goes up?
Also, I noted the Police could not find the guy who was growing the Poppy crop and I thought he was probably on his way out of the Country? Than while I was talking to another guy on it, the thought hit me that if it was an operation of that size/ money, it is possible it was connected to the Cartels? Could be the farmer was already sleeping with the fishes as who ever was fronting the bucks would not take kindly to that kind of a loss so easily?
I have given much thought to several issues in our wonderful Community, petty theft and corruption aside and after speaking to some people am probably going forward with some things that sadden me; very, very deeply. But the unbelievable lack of respect for the Law in this City again needs to be challenged. And on several fronts; so the old man will again go on a campaign to do what is right versus just sit and watch. The folks here in Vienna deserve so much better than they have gotten not just from the old City Council, but also the new one.
So as things are done, stay tuned here as one will not see it in the media.
The esteemed and knowledgeable Mr. Myer in the "Their Opinion" a week back commented on why the State should "Try some real spending discipline". He while being esteemed and I know knowledgeable appears to share some of my naiveté? I commend him for believing that any Government Entity at whatever level is going to collect and spend monies wisely?
He so clearly noted the "ambushing" of the Legislature by the State Bureaucracy with the screams and gnashing of teeth over the vast and vicious reductions in staff and services if any money is taken from any Agency. He noted well, the threats by Agencies/ Functions to say by the BOE/ Colleges to close schools; raise tuitions and any and all other fees. State Police he noted "would be as scarce as hen's teeth". He provided many excellent examples of the how the earth would open up and swallow the entire State.
The State Bureaucracy has for at least the 10 years I have watched, brought the Legislature to its knees either through threats of shutdowns/ massive increases or via the power of having as say the huge number of retired Teachers/ Administrators who are now in State Government to protect the "Educational" system. Combine that with the Delegates like our own Mr. Kelly who panders to those same Teachers/ Unions for votes and soon it is very apparent the Legislature appears to be DOA at Charleston?
Mr. Myer, I respect and admire your stand on issues very highly. But I believe we are both very naïve to expect the State Legislature to pay the bills when they have no control over the checkbook(s). 'nuff said'.
