It may and probably was not intentional, but something I have been trying to get an answer too for some time may have fallen out today? It has been noted here many times that the Truth will usually out in time. Today may have been one of those days.
Going on too the budget that the VUB plans to present to be voted on at the next regular meeting in June and than get rubber stamped by the City Council for forwarding to whatever State Agency that is supposed to review and approve or not is in the works as I noted the other day. Staff says budget revenues will remain the same, but expenses for Health Insurance and of course the raise will increase expenses. Budget is said to be "tight" for the next year, but still as always money for raises/ benefits. So many of the non-Governmental folks would have no problem explaining how their raises and health insurance increases were handled.
But as I noted above, I am more interested in that "shoe" to drop- stay tuned.
See where what I would call the "All Green" folks are out in force over the past few weeks. It seems to be starting with Mr. Dunn and his presentation at a recent City Council meeting to the usual letters starting to show up. There is no doubt we have done some dumb things over the years such as the Love Canal; the C8 nightmare that is still in play in many areas of the Country and of course even the Three Mile Island of years back. So we have a lot of clean up to do and the necessary steps to insure Air, Water and Land remain usable. But as was just noted, we can and do go overboard and are prone to throw the baby out with bathwater.
And as I have noted several times, the non-discrimination Ordinance is still under fire at the P'burg City Council. Will continue until it gets a vote. Once voted down if that happens, the Lawsuit will start. Come to think of it, the Lawsuit may start if it passes? Yet, it was said the WV Supreme Court may well have dealt it a death blow in their recent hate crime decision? I believe that the Court was wrong in its determination and rewrote the Law to suit the case. It is not ended nor will be soon.
Can not lie, I really enjoyed the excellent PR column on "Joining the Hometown Team". It was all about the fine work that the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation does here. Now I have been or think I have been complimentary when they give to those Agencies/ Organizations that try to help the so many needy in our area. I am also willing to point out some of their efforts that stink of Politics in grants to an Entity that has no legitimate need for their help other than getting something for nothing. Hope they shift more to the needy versus the greedy.
The planning efforts even if only in the early stage for Medical Marijuana just scares the bejeebers out of me. While there may well be some benefits for a few from using it, in this State, how long till anyone can get a prescription for everything? We are going to see so many stoned drivers that the un-stoned will may be in the minority? One Ms. Adler of the DHHR gave an excellent bureaucratese statement on the process as it is today.
The Department of Agriculture is the only Entity so far to sign on to be on the Medical Cannabis Advisory Board. Mr. Leonhardt the Dept.of Ag Commish selected one Mr. Hatton to be the Representative. Mr. Hatton stated: " As a lifelong farmer, I think this is a great opportunity to show what we can do in agriculture". And that "it can not be grown in the middle of an open field". He says has many unanswered questions and need to look at other States such as Colorado. It is also noted it has to be profitable.
I am going to suggest he call either the huge growers in the North of California and Southern Oregon. They should readily be able to connect him to the Cartels in Mexico who have been able to break even each year on their grow sites. No, one should not grow it in an open field unless the whole field is of Pot. Barbwire, trip wires, explosive devices and armed guards will insure its safety that way. Also great indoor plants in Pole Buildings with good electricity and fans to regulate temperature plus drip lines for watering just right. Will need drip lines in any fields also and the Deer are said to love the plants.
Could we also have "turf" wars over ownership? There is said to be a lot of money in this stuff? 'nuff said'.
