I have noted where the basic food group; processed meats like bacon, ham and sausage are now classified as being group 1 carcinogens. Same category as Asbestos, arsenic, alcohol and tobacco. Major cause of bowel cancer they say; irrefutable evidence in fact. Guess I will have bacon for breakfast tomorrow to insure all is well in Larryville. I know Cancer of any type not funny, but everything we eat, drink, breathe, wear or touch is now going to kill us.
Another interesting item today was that Africa; yes, Africa is declared entirely free from Polio. Now that is a miracle similar to our vaccines in the 1950s. Why do we care you ask? Because it is for the short term not as likely someone will hop a plane there and 24 hours later be spreading it here now. Will it last? I don't know? We were rid of measles and then some decided not to vaccinate their kids. So when some one strolled into the Country from Mexico to Disneyland as an example we ended up with it all over the Country. As some of us who were older know, in its day it was a terrible disease and crippled/ killed so many. It was terrible to see people in iron lungs.
Interestingly enough, found out that 51.4% of people earned less than $30K in 2014. That is a tough living folks. And what is worse, only 62.4 % are actually in work force. That is either a disgrace or a massive shame. And both are in fact one and the same. But don't know how many doing 2 or 3 jobs to survive; just are working. This Country is in the dumps and we have to bear at least another 16 months if ALL goes well?
And the next big threat we are facing; as if we don't have enough is our power grid. It was disclosed that in an interview with Mr. Johnson the head of Homeland Security that our old friends the Russians and Chinese have hacked into the grid systems and "installed" cyber bombs that are ready to go off at the push of a button. Does he/ homeland have a plan? He thinks so, somewhere in pile of folders? His best advice to the interviewer to tell us, the Public; make sure we have a radio with a lot of spare batteries. Oh, Lord help us.
Just noted a Russian plane with 224 people aboard went down in the Sinai in Egypt. Still apparently no word as of this A,M. as to cause? If some of the crazies wandering around in that area brought it down via a rocket or a bomb, would suspect Mr. Putin is going to be livid. After all the crazies are all getting their rockets/ bombs from Russia, China and Iran. And that even includes ISIS who is taking them when over running sites. Would be a sad but poetic justice after the Malaysian flight being shot down in Ukraine by the Russians or their buddies?
Ongoing reports from some with knowledge to the militant groups in the area say they did not have weapons capable of bringing down the plane. So was it plane failure or a bomb?
'Redlining' Home Loan Discrimination Re-emerges as a Concern for Regulators? Why did this strike me as an issue? Because of the peculiar Zoning Code set up here in the 60's and amended some in the 70's. Just who is being kept out of certain areas of Vienna is still open to interpretation? But it still stinks of some sort of potential discrimination? People here I know are mostly better than that now; at least I hope so. I know there are bigots everywhere. Have ran into them in Hawaii, Korea, Philippines and even a little here as I have noted. But in this Country, we are by and large much better than that. The zoning code is not indicative on the surface against anyone, but is questionable on what can be built in the areas? That begs as I asked before on who would be likely to live in such housing?
Have followed the news on the surveillance blimp that broke loose and dragged over a mile of tethering cable behind it until it snagged and shorted out a bunch of folk's electricity. In the early/ middle 60s, I had the opportunity to work in a plywood mill that was located in one of two blimp hangers in the area where I live. That hanger was so big that it was said you could put a football field on its end and still not reach the top of the hanger. One could look up and it was so high, one at least me could not see the top clearly.
There were wooden ladders in some spots along the sides of the wall that the troops/ workers used to use to get to the catwalks to work on the blimps. The blimps were used during WWII to scout the Oregon/ Washington and I think Northern California Coast for Japanese ships and aircraft. The entire hanger was so big that the entire plywood mill was inside from the cutting up of the logs for the green chain to the other end where the dryers for the wood were located. in between was everything else from the actual plywood making spots to the sanding/ repair and shipping locations. It was so huge that one got lost without any trouble at all if not familiar with the plant. If you ever get the chance to visit one of these huge behemoths of a building; do so. It is a marvelous experience.
Here is some food for thought based on our ever increasing aged population and how hard it can be to care for them or they for themselves:
Abuse Plagues System of Legal Guardians for Adults
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL Arian Campo-Flores, Ashby Jones

For decades, states have granted courts the power to appoint guardians or conservators for elderly or disabled people unable to tend to their basic needs. Most appointed guardians are family members, but judges can turn to a growing industry of professional, unrelated guardians.
The caretakers’ authority varies by case and jurisdiction, but often they are granted broad authority over a ward’s finances, medical care and living conditions. Unlike a power of attorney, which one person can grant to another and revoke at any time, guardianship is established by a judge and can only be revoked by the court.
But guardianship systems across the country are plagued by allegations of financial exploitation and abuse, despite waves of reform efforts. As a result, critics say, many elderly people with significant assets become ensnared in a system that seems mainly to succeed at generating billings. “These laws which were designed to protect the vulnerable are being used against them to exploit them,” says Dr. Sam Sugar, founder of Americans Against Abusive Probate Guardianship, an advocacy group.
And as we all know, the little ones and the not so little ones will be out tonight. So a little extra caution is worth a lot of effort for all. 'nuff said.
