9 years after recession began, some States still unrecovered.
Meridian, Miss. (AP).
Of course, should not be much doubt of at least one State we all know-West Virginia. "The economy and job numbers are still below 2008 levels".
So in spite of all the smoke and mirrors put out too us from whatever source, that sickening sound you hear is an already stench covered sucking noise as people are pulled across the various State borders as people flee the State in hopes of a future- anywhere but here.
The true loss is the willingness to work, usually better educated and more aggressive folks that we need to prosper if only we could keep them here. Yet down in the Labyrinth we call Charleston, the way out seems to be taxes, taxes and more taxes?
As much as I can admit my compliments to the folks who participated in the "River Sweep", I must be, oh so skeptical of the Chemour/ DuPont Company participation AS A COMPANY.
Decades of destruction of the air/ water/ land in the MOV and other locales with C8 and now the big "Atta Boy" from the Daily Blat? It would have been so much better if the Business Model so avidly pursued for so long had also had this Public Service approach in fact and deed? But sadly it seems, a few thousand dollars here can buy one just about anything from forgetfulness to forgiveness?
And as you probably know, the WV., House has not only rewritten the Revenue Bill, but also passed it already. Those lads and lassies can move damn fast when there is something to be had for them. Just what still seems to be iffy?
Still going to stick out my neck and ask just exactly and I mean the infamous "Devil is in the Details", where all this money will really come from to balance the above rewrite in Truth? So easy to throw out that Social Security and Military Pay to be exempted; a new $2500. versus the old $2000., personal exemption. But while for sure will help some, is still going to leave the more of us paying taxes somewhere to offset those reductions?
The now spoken fact on the 20th, that the Senate would reject the new House Bill 107 is a bit of a "What the Hell are we doing thing". A bit of grandstanding with no real resolution as much as a show of defiance? Who is the Eagle and who will play the mouse in this deal?
I probably, a bit more than most folks understand the dire need to rein Mr. Justice in and break him to a fiscally responsibly trot that does little damage to the most needful who end up paying taxes that put their day to day in jeopardy. For those who are hard at work and living from pay check to pay check, a dollar here and a dollar there add up quickly to what won't we pay this time? Maybe rent/ mortgage, water, gas, electricity? Possible some of the really good parents trying to be parents will decide to skip a meal or two themselves so there will be more for the tykes? I have known it to happen before in some other places I have lived. But is that really a solution? No, it is desperation and the love of a good mother and father. NO one should even have to consider living like that.
Now those who will let the bills/ food go to buy their booze, cigs and dope get little sympathy from me and quite honestly, I doubt they will care? But the Sales Tax dollars will pour in and the dope will be labeled as "Medicinal".
And all the sympathy in the World will not buy one hog dog or ear of corn for anyone. So we will keep watching and wondering just where the knives of reduction get sharpened and actually fall if at all? Or will Mr. Justice get his half Billion in Tax increases?
And the County Commission grabbed every possible penny by increasing the Transfer Fee for transferring ownership of County property. It went up I believe from $2.20 per $500/ value to $2.75 per $500/ value. Not a big change but will bring in about $90 thousand more dollars for spending on whatever. And note about $1.20 will go to the State; balance to County? So without too much fan fair the State/ County costs just keep going up and up.
I am probably sounding a bit ticked off? Frustrated for damn sure. 'nuff said'.
