"I wrote this two days ago, but it has just flashed that the old Warrior has passed. 8:40 P.M., 25 August 2018"
The recent announcement that Senator John McCain has chosen to stop his treatments will soon I fear bring his last fight to an end.
He earned his place in our History as a Hero, the day he refused to be liberated from a North Vietnamese Prison because his father was a Navy Admiral. For only that one day in time, he earned and deserves our respect and admiration until his release in 1973. Everything in the following 45 years of Public Service since then was the Proverbial "Frosting on the Cake" for him.
It is sad that he will end his great career on a sour note with his hatred for Mr. Trump. I do not condone what Mr. Trump said in any way, shape or form. They were ill advised words from one who avoided doing his duty with deferment after deferment versus one who did his in spades.
It takes a lot out of a Man to expend energy to hate someone. They are usually not worth it except under extreme conditions. He may well have met that standard for his?
I am a bit sad on how he may have hurt our Country with some of his votes and positions over the past year and a half, but will weigh that little bit of time in the whole experience of 50 years not just the one and a half.
When he goes to where ever our Heroes of today go since the shuttered doors to the Viking Valhalla of long ago may be no more, I am sure he will be welcomed into another Hall of Heroes, with open arms and a hearty "Three Cheers". Vaya con Dios Sir, Vaya con Dios.
Now a bit on the other side of Service be it to one's Country or just a small Community anywhere in this Country.
There was what I guess was a private meeting after the 23rd Council Meeting between Mr. Leach and Ms. Powell? Initially, it was supposed to be an all in for anybody one, but after the meeting ended, Mr. Leach went off into the small room and Ms. Powell kinda snuck in behind him? I was asked by someone if they could go in and I said I don't know? Did not see anyone else go in and she had said on the 16th that at least one other Resident had questions? I think we would have gone but it did not seem as open as advertised? And seeing the Video, I don't think it was intended to be?
One thing she did that too me was a positive was the notice by Mr. Leach of a "Hot Spot" by the old road heading to the North of the site.
Seems that one of the "Hotspots" that was identified on her old map and marked by Mr. Leach, seemed to be right about on top of the 40'- 50' ravine that never existed. In fact, could well have been the higher end as the deeper part was filled in, became the last available fill area?
Than there was the one in the Parking Lot covered by the Parking Slab. And finally, one that might well have been where there was an underground storage tank? In any case, that was some interesting points brought out.
There was some talk on what was supposed to be in the spot by the woods? Supposedly Arsenic and PH (????) contaminants.
Ms. Powell: Is the City going to repave the Parking Lot?
Mr. Leach: City will meet the Covenants/ Remediation as is required by DEP.
Ms. Powell: And the Wooded Area at North End of Park?
Mr. Leach: Nothing there that requires any City action.
Ms. Powell: Never been talked about any concerns?
(The Map being used was a very old one and I believe that most of the Woods are now gone? There is a long drainage canal going from the Railroad Tracks area down to the river. It has been noted and asked about several times. But for the usual reasons, she is the first one to ever talk about it). It was especially noteworthy when we had the flooding the last two times and that area showed the back flooding from the River.
And than of course, she got to the Dock/ Landing.
Mr. Leach: Depends on the Citizens wanting? I would like a Dock there.
She than closed with: "It is not even close at this time. But possibly down the road, I could share my ideas on the Boat Ramp"?
Back on 19 July, when Mr. Rogers blew up the whole deal on the 12th St Ramp and noted he had a ramp in his drawing that I said was probably in the Reimagine Meeting of July 2014, she suddenly shifted to this comment on the 12th of August:
"I am interested in knowing where on Spencer's Landing a boat ramp would be placed as I have a suggestion if they haven't thought of it already".
This is very similar to her recent comments on no one has talked about the Northern part of the Park by the than wooded area.
Likes to it seems take other peoples' ideas and repackage as her own original ones? A sad, sad lady.
There is nothing wrong with elaborating on another idea provided that the originator gets due credit and it is noted as an additional position/ comment.
She may wish to try communicating/ cooperating with some of the other folks in play on City issues?
And please understand, I am NOT speaking of me. I read Ms. Powell like a bad Novel. 'nuff said'.
