Me thinks they "doth too".
I noted a few days back that I was going to resolve some campaign sign issues with a couple of the so called ladies in the 'hood. Well, Saturday one brought back my sign but was put out at my request to her. And a brief message she left with my wife in a small letter inferred my wife might well be a live in street walker? This is sad as I have tried so hard to protect her from the various levels of Rappites that are wandering Vienna spewing their lies, vicious attacks and outright fabrications. And this is the proof of the pudding. I am going to suggest with all due respect that the people in charge of some of these Rappites think carefully of the path they tread. My wife is NOT Elected/ Appointed to anything and I do NOT allow her into my campaign.
But the closer to the Election, the more desperate they become.
As I go through the neighborhoods of Vienna, I am actually surprised at all the sewer and water pipe problems that are being pointed out to me. Plus the problems of water running off the City Streets and into people's property. This is not legal for the City to do this to private property. And when I am told that they have talked to the VUB and nothing has been done makes it even worse. Even had it said to me that Mr. Rapp has told some there is nothing to be done? Maybe if we held the paving Contractors liable for their work it would help with some of the street run off?
But the trade off is that people are fed up with Mr. Rapp. As one told me Saturday, "I have known Randi for years and told him I will not vote for him this time". The person was tired of what he said seemed to be the endless spending but nothing getting repaired. All I can say is welcome to Vienna- 2013/ 2016. You have had almost four years of the same. Just change the area name. You remember "same tune, different lyrics".
I keep having a major Rappite pain in the fanny showing up where I am. Almost feel I am being stalked? Saturday, she pops up out of the blue asking the person I was talking too about one of the Council Incumbents. Wants to know if he is a Republican and Pro-Life? I thought the races were non-partisan? And the Pro or Anti Abortion issue should have nothing to do with these races either. Something wrong with some of these people who keep putting things into these races that should not be there? I know the woman wants to shut down that Clinic on 13th Ave., and Grand Central but don't think there is anything the City can do about it as long as the Clinic is obeying the Law? But understand also, that Mr. Rapp is not a firm believer in a Law if it conflicts with his agenda? It seems a little odd and a potential problem when brought into this small City Election race? This would seem to be an issue for the Legislature and the Courts? So I would suggest talking to the State Legislature Rep's.
Then, I find out Sunday night that a fellow with a scanner heard a call for number 148 (whomever), to go over to a "Patti Coopers" home reference some political signs. Now she is very willing it seems to go out into the public area and start taking people's signs down? I thought maybe someone had caught her red handed and called the constabulary? WRONG; I find out Monday morning that ALL the signs for whomever is running for a Public Office are now gone from the Public Area in front of her home and it is full of Anti-Abortion signs. That very much appears to go against State Election Laws? No matter who they are or what they are running for, they have the right to promote their candidacy. I would never remove a persons' sign no matter how much I agree or disagree. There is a HUGE City Property exposure on that corner.
Now this is City Property and I was surprised that the City had decided to declare itself an Anti-Abortion City? To me that is a personal matter between each of us and our God? Right now, it is the Law of the Land and until we can get it reversed LEGALLY, it probably will stay? I think Mr. Rapp and whomever he is dealing with on this is not on the right track. The political races are supposed to be for Vienna non-partisan (No Political affiliation). But when one is desperate for votes, one will promise anything to anybody. I suspect, there are going to be a bunch of ticked off folks who do support Abortion? Those signs should be on Ms. Cooper's property; It is for sure her right to protest.
IF and I repeat IF it has become the City Position to run as a "Partisan" Government as many others do, than we should have made this questionable change BEFORE we started this Election Cycle? By that, we need to run in Districts like say P'burg where the Candidates run as a certain Party. Be it Green, Independent, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or whatever? Than the Voters if something is very important or interesting to them can decide who they vote for based on those issues.
If this is to be an issue for this Election, it should be on the Ballot. Than we can talk more on it as we feel the need to and than vote the issue and how the Candidates running support or not?
But it is also pretty obvious that this is not a normal Election. So much nasty from some of the Candidates and their supporters with no intention to address the issues of the City. Twice this week, I have been asked if I thought Mr. Azinger the Elder was to old run? I truthfully said "NO". But he will not complete the term if elected. Mr. Rapp is the kid on the block, but can still run. In all probability, he will not complete the term for his obvious reasons. In both their cases, they are entitled to run. Truth is that neither one has any record to run on for the past four years; no matter what they were doing in any of those years.
The City is a mess of deteriorating infrastructure that is even worse than I suspected. Millions spent on building monuments that have questionable or little value. But the voters will decide for the basic improvements the City needs and progress OR more of the same for the next four years.
Was out talking to the folks today (Monday) and a lady came out of a home I had left a card at just a few minutes earlier as no answer. She actually chased me down three houses to talk to me. Said was going too with her husband vote for me. We talked for several minutes and she told me the most interesting thing?
In the recent past, she said just a few days, that someone had retired from DuPont and almost immediately had went to work for the City. See more of the Nepotism, Favoritism and Cronyism that goes on here. She was ticked that someone who needed a job with no fat retirement could not get on with the City, but a "friend" had no problem?
And again raises the questions on the joined at the hip between Mr. Rapp and Mr. Azinger with DuPont/ Chemours versus the average person here in Vienna? 'nuff said'.
I am asking for your Vote. "Change is in the Air".
(Paid for by the Candidate- Lawrence J. Wilson for Mayor of Vienna).
