It is a talent that I developed when I was in the Service as Group Materials Inspector and most especially as a Property Book Officer when I was a Warrant Officer. On Duty, it was common for people to want "favors" from me because I had the accountability/ responsibility for all the items in my Unit(s). And that meant everything except large amounts of ammunition and food. Just about everything else, I had access too from 10 Ton Recovery Vehicles down to boxes of pens . In simple terms a good guy to know. But I made sure that everyone I was responsible to support got what they were to have before I would even consider giving a box of pens to someone outside of my Unit.
My issue with Mr. Conley is that he has not been upfront that this is his third attempt at Council. I see no sin/ shame in trying for something and not succeeding at it. It is after all a Mans' right to fail. If an adult male stands up and steps out, that is a good thing. It means the person is trying to do something and not just sitting on one's hands. Believe me, it took years for me to learn that lesson myself.
I am critical of him for his sad support of Mr. Rapp when in MY opinion he should see the damage that has been done to this Community versus taking care of its needs? As a man said to me today, we don't need any more Monuments; we need things fixed. And if anyone is listening to me, I am a nuts and bolts guy. That is what is on my "Platform for Tomorrow". It is as simple as that folks.
I am critical of him, Mr. Bibbee, Mr. Miracle and Mr. Sims for suddenly finding tax relief for the folks after my trying for five years alone except for Mr. Stephens stepping up the last two times. He got whipped 6-1 both tries.
Mr. Bibbee and Mr. Miracle in MY opinion are hypocrites now for that position and BOTH of them voted AGAINST it twice in the past two budget cycles. They are all in for the need to try and get re-elected after doing nothing for the folks in their complete time on the Council. Mr. Sims has been silent on it also for the numerous times he has run for Council.
But having said the above, I will AGAIN state, I have NO personal dislike for them. I don't know them. I have no reason at this time to want to know them personally. As Mayor, I will have no problem working with any of them on Council. That is Professional and quite easy for me.
Got a call from a guy who was asking me about who I might consider for City Council. I told him that I could not find much in the list that was going to benefit the Community compared to the special interest groups today. Sadly, just clones of the current bunch. There are a couple that may be City oriented but only a couple. The only true hope I have for the City is if I can get the Mayor's position. It was pointed out to me that I have Vision; I said thank you; not everyone can follow the value in that.
Well, today, Wednesday, the early voting started down in P'burg. Hope you folks who can vote there but I would not be upset if you waited to vote here at home. Important thing is to vote.......................
Have met hundreds and hundreds of really neat folks here in Vienna. Almost everyone has been very nice and courteous even when a few say they are going to vote for someone. Gotta expect a few of the less than nice types, but so very, very few. Thank you all for your courtesy and politeness.
Being told about some cars being gone through on 12th St. Person telling me said owners had called Police? Said yes; I asked if anyone showed up; he didn't know. See if a report anywhere? Keep your cars locked folks. Vienna has its share of bad guys.
Wife asked me if we should do candy this year. I looked at her and said if we did, I would be attacked by the neighbors and probably Ms. Rapp again as I was earlier this year? Buying some VFD Ice Cream Social tickets after someone finally came to my door got me chewed up one side and down the other. We have a few really miserable folks in town. No matter how well intentioned something is, it will be turned into something rotten. But one justs keeps on truckin'.
Have not done any candy for some years as we have two very, very large dogs. I am not sure who trained who, but if we are on front porch, they know they should be too. Can you imaging any poor little kids coming up your sidewalk and two huge dogs go off on them? I can't see it myself. And so you say leave them in the house. They will still raise holy hell because they can hear them and see them through the front window. They can lift the blinds. So we don't do candy; and considering how big some of the bags are, the kids are missing nothing. In the day, we could do popcorn balls, fruit, cupcakes/ muffins. Now maniacs have ruined all that for the tykes. Thought I would put this out now so some could start writing their attacks.
Was out in the 'hood this afternoon (Wed.), and where I was, the folks had their sidewalk. But their issue was the way people came speeding down the street all the time. And they for sure had a lot of traffic. So, I am going to say that there is going to be a program for unscheduled patrols down those City Streets. Now, no speed traps, but for sure respect for Stop Signs and Speed Limits. 'nuff said'.
I am asking for your Vote. "Change is in the Air".
(Paid for by the Candidate- Lawrence J. Wilson for Mayor of Vienna).
