And as an added item, I was told that the City was putting in 2- 5000 gallon fuel tanks. Now I am a bit suspicious of that as I don't remember any bid talk for something that big? Was asked if they would both be Diesel and I don't know. Would think that VUB still had some gasoline vehicles and the older Police Vehicles I thought were gas? But with the City turning over so many pieces of equipment and buying so many new ones, guess the Fleet could be getting close to all Diesel. Can Natural Gas/ Propane be far behind? Also asked what the City would do with the tanks down at 12th St location? Again, I have nothing and no one is talking? Would think they should be moved to 60th?
Watched them or someone doing the milling work on 9th St. Monday and they had it and part of 13th blocked off milling that one too. 9th did not need to be repaved. Maybe work on the drains for the Storm Water that are so deep but the road it self was not very bad at all. 12th St. was and still is far, far worse. And 13th Ave. from 9th towards 12th St, was not that bad. Not too sure about Grand Central to 9th, but seems a lot of work for what real purposes?
The supposed big repair project on the corner of 9th St. and 13th Ave turned out to be a big to do over nothing. I was told that the City brought in the camera truck and it helped to make the repair a lot less complicated. That is a good thing, but still we lost that damn year while it sat pretty much at 60th St.
Have any of you seen any of that smoke that was to be used to find all the Downspouts that are draining into the Sewer Lines? I have seen nothing and no one has mentioned any to me?
Had a conversation today with someone who heard some what will qualify as hearsay in a Court of Law, where ever that may be? A City Councilman is alleged to have approached an elderly couple to buy their home and they could live in it for the remainder of their lives. Now this would or could be quite Legal in most places? But than it came out that the house needed roof work and the couple had been scammed. The Councilman was supposed to have told them to apply to the CDBG program for a new Roof? Now that is not how that is supposed to work. The program is for minor roof repairs not a new roof. This begins to smell like a deal where the Taxpayers pick up the tab for a new roof in spite of what the program is really for? Than the City Councilman buys the house. Stinks of conflict of interest; but this is Vienna.
And even worse, it shows that the word does NOT get out to the folks on these programs that come out each year. Not the first time I have heard or actually met folks who needed some help and were unaware of what is available.
Cannot get over my surprise at how our massive opioid drug problem is getting so much attention from our Senators, most especially Ms. Capito. I thought a big push was put out when Mr. Obama strolled down here last year to visit and agree on the epidemic?
I would so hope that the change at the top is not reinventing the wheel so to speak. We need solid, substantial and verifiable results for people if they are to succeed in stopping drugs. With an alleged 91% relapse rate, it is going to be a long and sad process.
It can NOT be emphasized enough to stop the kids from starting. There has to be severe penalties for selling or giving drugs of any type to anyone under 18. This to include any under 18s that may be doing the distributing. They know better and need to learn the Law.
It was said in an "Our Opinion" column in the Daily Blat that per Rea of Hope Executive Director Marie Beaver in another newspaper that "We just saw a need that six months was not enough for these women to clear up so much wreckage". She is obviously big on a program to assist women addicts
Does anyone even begin to know the cost of these types of facilities for those lengths of time that are imagined for a "cure"? It is a nightmare for just 30 day programs that now appear to be unsuccessful efforts if the above is true? Or could it be a grab for Tax Dollars that seem to do so little so many times as the money is siphoned off by the providing institutions?
So, we need be prepared for more and larger losses of people and huge expenditures of funds that do NOT exist today. So lets try:
1. Stop the kids.
2. Begin NOW to stop the importation of not just the Fentanyl from places like China, and the new manmade versions the Cartels are shipping it to us. It is said that when the prescription opioids dry up that the addicts go to Heroin which is supposed to be even cheaper?
3. Get tougher on those dealing to people over 18 and prosecute anyone who is responsible for a fatality due to giving/ selling drugs to another person.
This is an issue where we go big or stay home. The losses are going to sky rocket and now is and maybe one of our last chances to save our Country and our loved ones. 'nuff said'.
