And of course, the Army got caught lowering standards to help the ladies get through Ranger School. As it was noted, the White House where everyone's most favorite non democrat's first most favorite person to hate lives in regal and unbelievable style is in it again. Seems the agenda is to make the military the testing ground for equal anything and everything. The problem will be the troops both male and female who get injured, die and captured because of this great social experiment. I have before and will again say there are fields of endeavor that women not only can, but will excel at and beat the pants off of most males and I am not talking just cooks and clerks. Try also mechanics and parachute riggers as examples? Being a Ranger, Seal, Delta Force are not three of them by and large. Now there are some, but very few who could if they wished take on these courses and pass on the same standard as any man, anywhere. They are as anyone in any of the services at any time in the past or present know few and far between. If and I repeat IF one wishes to apply and be accepted on her record as of the date of her application, then so be it. If she passes under legitimate standard, so be it; if not, she goes where ever that military branch sends her. Right is right; fair is fair.
I note where a Mayor in Maine is proposing to reveal/ release the names of all welfare recipients. He says Public Knowledge and the people deserve to know where and how their money is being spent. I say also the revealing of these name will in all likelihood expose those working under the table and getting Tax Payer dollars illegally. The usual argument is the "embarrassment" to those deserving of the benefit(s). There is crime; no sin in needing help. Most of us who were real people have had stretches where things are not going well and a hand up is a good thing. It is even possible a neighbor seeing the name would know where a job opening exists the person could apply for and fill?
And I need to say on the "Wrestling Facility" that the Wood BOE "approved"; of course they did. Here is a chance for them to ignore a legitimate need for the kids and at the same time get a brand new if not completely done one (no bathroom, showers) for "free". At any time in the future, it can take that facility and convert in into an emergency weather area for the staff that can not get out right away due to inclement weather. Maybe a teacher's lounge with of course in both instances the need to "properly" complete it. You notice I say staff. The parents will of course move Heaven and Earth to get their little darlings home safe.
While I have no problem with the kids having a new facility, I have a big problem with the City providing $25K in kind support. This is a mixing of City- School dollars which because the District cannot manage its funds better and of course Vienna which has so many excess dollars and a group of equipment/ construction people who can build as much as needed on the project. This will be at no cost to anyone but the City Tax Payers. Now to cloak this very admirable project in a win- win for all is a little off.
The inability of the BOE to properly fund such projects is sad. Yes, they will tell you how poor and broke the District is; how there is $13 Million in backlogged repairs on many of the Schools and other buildings. But again, get rid of half a dozen Vice this and Asst. that will open a million and probable more in funds for needed/ worthy projects. And also, with the argument, we can't take money from this line and put in that line. Yeah, you can; if the Law is restrictive, the Law can be amended or a new one passed to help the kids. It's always a matter of will to get the needs met and the job done correctly that suffers when a solution in any way, shape or form arises that interferes with the special agenda's of any Government Entity at any level. Think big and outside of the box or go home. And I don't mean what is being done here. I mean within the group with the true responsibility..
As an aside, when the good Police Officer stood in front of the City Council, it was noted and promised that this new building would be all things to all people. Training room for the City's finest, the cheerleaders could practice in it; any other sport to include Golf could use it. The only thing not promised was for little John and Cindy to bring in their ponies for an Equestrian Class. Now it seems to have been brought back down to earth for wrestling and weight training. Still not a problem other than the "Truth in Advertising" when the Officer/ Coach ran his spiel. Pie in the Sky, lad; Pie in the Sky.
See where a quote from a P'burg Council Member (Carpenter), could so easily apply to our little group of Merry Men and Woman. "“They may have been minor in the eyes of the law, but the amount of the violations is(what) concerns me,” he said. Carpenter said council is culpable in the situation as well. “The council was just as guilty for not seeing what was being done even though we weren’t told what was being done,” he said. The big difference is most of the City of Vienna Council versus a minority that in actuality runs the City almost like their personal fiefdom (not the staff).
One could almost laugh at how easily the Truth in one Government Entity could so easily apply in general terms to another for some of the same basic reasons? I noticed that the Council Treasurer Mr. Miracle emphasized while giving the report on City Finances Thursday night said "it appears the City is...............................". Operative word with a change in tone was "appears".
It would bode well for him to be very, very cautious. There are more snakes under the rocks, no matter how he may be assured by anyone. Think the gentleman is waking up?
This fine City has an opportunity to change the direction of the good ship "Queen of the Valley" and do it resoundingly. Many unheeded needs and clearly deserved changes for ALL the people can be accomplished if the Voters want too. Some will benefit more than others, but ALL will benefit. Need a City Council of ALL the people; not just some. 'nuff said.
