And still at 4:30 P.M., on the 25th, still no Council Agenda on the Website. Will be interesting to hear the why and why not on that, yet again?
At the meeting last night, someone said the Agenda got posted around 5:00 P.M.ish? It was not much of one and a Council Member advised me that with no old business, no motions, resolutions and so forth, that the Meeting should have been cancelled.
It was interesting that there was no media again tonight? Wonder what was going on where with the Candidates?
After listening to the huge Kumbaya moment by Ms. Kern, I am not sure but what the above Member might well have been right. There was considerable talk by her on 2019 events for the Senior Center and of course all the Parades, Dog Shows, Movie Nights and so on that we have each year. And again the comments on parents coming to her crying as they would not be able to take their children to a movie if not the ones at Spencer in the Summers. And that is most likely well and good as there are so many hurting in this town.
And of course a whole lot of verbiage on all the programs in the Tin Shed next to the Senior Center. But that does NOT change the small turnout of Seniors at the Center on most days. Except for the AARP Meeting (20- 30), and the Senior Luncheon (45- 55), daily attendance is around 10 regulars who come to play cards and do puzzles. I go the afore mentioned affairs as some of those people are really very, very nice. Plus the speakers can be very interesting and I have posted some good things they have put out that could help the many who do not attend the affairs due to a lack of interest (Still think I am being kind here?), or not yet old enough to sit with all the old folks? And of course on those times when Mr. Rapp wanders down to the Center as he did a while back. It was a great example of how the City of Vienna was responsible for each and every accomplishment that had happened in Wood County thanks to the City. Forget about the Mall Sales Staff, PMC and the Wood County Fire Board.
I do not count the attendance at the Tin Shed, as I am not sure just how many are really from Vienna and how many are from all over? Plus I am suspicious of how that attendance is really counted? One person x four events or one person all day not matter how many exercise classes?
And Mr. Leach went after Mr. Conley (who was absent), on how childish he was in his behavior at the Public Hearing on Johns Manville on the 17th. There was talk that the City had no choice in how the Hearing would be held as it was a WVDEP function. Yet, it has also been said it was a Vienna Hearing and Mr. Hancock from DEP was not required to be there. Than it came out that to have him there would have been at a cost of 18 hours for I guess preparatory work, travel and attendance at $135./ hour? I am a bit suspicious of that number for a State Employee? Could be wrong of course as he is very specialized in his field? Small price to pay after all we have spent to get any questions answered by the Public?
It was a bit surprising to have Mr. Bibbee apologize for his anger at Mr. Brookover over due to his letter in the Daily Blat. But than as you all know Mr. Brookover apologized in a later letter for his "mistake". So everyone hugged and made up till next time. But as I noted, Mr. Brookover would not have had to write that second letter had he just done some Research first. But, shoot from the hip and trip over your lip as it goes. Plus it is almost Election time for the City Council again.
The deal on Big Lots taking over the old Toys R Us site and China Buffet will be a shot in the arm for the Mall for sure. Not sure yet just how Mr. Rapp will take credit for it, but he will get his mug in photo someplace?
As for closing the old one to move here is a bit interesting? If and when the State gets that new interchange built, it will be a lot easier to get in and out. Don't see how traffic/ parking would be an issue as there is a lot of empty spaces most times the Wife and I go that way. Probably in truth more of a parking issue for the new site than the current one?
A lot of talk about the early voting that is going on. Answer me this if you will, how can one vote early and vote often if they start by voting on time or late?
It is far, far more interesting on all the Teenagers in high school that got registered to vote starting in this Election? Bet the Party Registrations should really be no surprise if put out. The kids have been brainwashed/ indoctrinated for the past year or two on who deserves this versus doing an adequate job.
Mr. Olcott in his asinine comments in the Daily Blat of the 23rd, on the "Enhancement" Levy really said a lot in why it should not be passed, but instead back to the drawing board. And I quote " This is not an excess he said. We want to get Wood County Schools back to the top of the education rankings in West Virginia and right now, we are only perceived as being in the middle of the pack".
I would say if it is actually that high in the rankings, it would be more a truism than a perception? Again, and yet again, NO TEACHER will do a better job with a higher salary than what they were doing before. If they could NOT do the job at $42,000. or more, they will NOT do the job at $47,000. or more.
As for closing Schools, with Mr. Raber living in Vienna and Ms. Henderson piled up North of Boaz, I can see why those schools seem are now off the cutting block? Politics, not practicality are likely at play again District down 2,200 Students from 14,400 in 2002 to about 12,200 and still have 27 Schools open. That is an average of only 451 per school and we know Waverly has about 130 with 30 from outside its borders as an example of how distorted the 451 truly is?
But, seems already the same BOE as before if it was a song. Maybe different lyrics, but the same B.S. music. Out of tune and out of touch. Just a Chorus of "More, More, More".
