I must suggest that anyone tooling around on a motorcycle without a motorcycle helmet has probably already smashed his/ her head a few too many times?
For this Mr. Sampson who was the former VP of West Virginia Abate (whatever the Hell that is?), to be talking about how one can ride almost to the West Coast without a helmet once leaving West Virginia is a bit incorrect. Nineteen States still require (with good cause), all riders to have a helmet. Four appear to be "Law" free and the balance appear to be age sensitive.
Now I have seen/ heard/ read about so many riders who have been killed or permanently maimed by being in an accident and not wearing a helmet. The lucky ones die; the rest usually end up as vegetables being cared for by their families or the Government.
His comment that it is a "right" to choose to not wear a helmet. That makes no sense since most bikers would be unable to care for themselves financially if injured permanently in a bike accident? That means their "right" becomes an obligation on others who do not have the "right" to refuse to pay for their care because they make a poor judgement call?
And don't try to say these folks don't go out get into horrendous wrecks? I have yet to see a person on a bike win in a wreck with a car/ truck? Even if wearing their leathers, they can get pretty beat up in a minor fender bender or just a bike accident by itself.
Myself, I would not ride a bike with or without a helmet. Just don't like them period. But I have no issue with folks riding them responsibly based on the vulnerability of being hit or running into something. This Law needs to be voted down in the interest of safety for the bikers no matter their alleged "right" to go out and kill or maim themselves.
And is it West Virginia that is considering a Law NOT requiring any type of warranty for used cars? Are we going back into the 50s, 69s and even the 80s when the "yellow line rule" was in effect? Once you left a lot and crossed the yellow line in the road, all bets were off.
It was said that it would be "clearly" disclosed as as "as is" sale and a person would be required to sign a statement that they understood what they were getting? Plus would be limited to vehicles under $2500. When you, whoever you are are looking at an inch or so of documents that are all gibberish except how much for how long, how many are going to review each piece of paper? Damn few, I am afraid, let alone understand them?
I am fully aware and have been for most of my life that there are some cracker jack mechanics out there who love to work and restore cars/ trucks on weekends. They could care less as long as they can get it home. But the average person with today's complex mechanics on vehicles will not be able to fix one if it goes down. Sadly, a lot of used car outfits are going to make a lot more money and a lot more are going to get no kiss when they get screwed.
This plus the Bikers no helmet Law seems to be regressing 50- 70 years or more backwards? Who the Hell is coming up with this stuff? If someone is adamantly against a helmet here than ride your bike "THERE". If one wants NO protection on the quality of a used car, buy it from a private party. I have on occasion bought cars from places like Enterprise Cars that have a year or so on them but still have the balance of the initial warranty left. Are these type of buys also going to be "Caveat Emptor" (let the buyer beware)? So many folks who do not work for the Government at whatever level in whatever capacity cannot afford a brand new rig and must depend on a good used/ second hand car. They for damn sure cannot afford to get burnt with a lemon.
Would like to give a business an "atta boy". Had to get some folks in to help drop a couple of trees that were beginning to be a problem. Was going to do them myself, but realized I had run out of ladder and my tired old legs would not allow me to be scrambling up in the higher levels. So called several Tree Removal/ Trimming companies for estimates. You can find them in the local Business & Service Directory of the Daily Blat. One of the few sections with any real value that allow for a quick review of miscellaneous needs. In any case I suggest get SEVERAL estimates as of the four I asked, two were very high for me, one was okay but a two week lead time and than the one I went with. So I would have no problem suggesting you for sure give Mike's Tree Service- 304.422.0246 a call. Unbelievably excellent service; timely, efficient, good price. Tell him the "ol guy sent you". Just kidding, don't even mention me.
As I have said many times, you don't have to agree with me. But I hope you will read, think and talk to your friends, neighbors, family? 'nuff said'.
