It would seem that with what is being put out, that collecting money from that Company's Fire Insurance may be a bit of a wish mentally more so than in reality. As I said before, if there are more than one company storing there, the Insurance Companies will spend years fighting over who owes what to whom.
It was nice to see your Governor doing the tour of the fire site and having a press conference to promise all the help the County needs to make thing right. But it still looks really shaky on getting money back in any way sufficient to cover the costs of fighting that monster.
Supposedly here in Vienna there is a lot of interest in what IEI is said to have stored in their warehouse out by the VUB. In this instance, it is said there is nothing the City can do as it is County Property not the City's. Still need to be proactive and push the State to require that complex be thoroughly inspected and insure things needing repaired/ changed happen.
That means the old adage "Trust but Verify", be a strong and timely follow up that things did happen if currently not in compliance.
It is a thought that this person did not come to West Virginia and buys facilities for various reasons because we are strict in enforcing our Laws if we even have them? It was to probably find a place where Laws could be ignored and/ or negated by just letting say the sprinkler system go out of service dismantle it and save on costs associated with it?
We have to understand and sadly many do not that people Asian Countries have far different ways of doing business than we do here. Many bad things happen there as Safety is many times no more than a word instead of actual deeds.
I had to sit and chuckle at the BOE Superintendent now being all in to repair the bleachers at Erickson Field after it was a running battle on the remaining cost be paid by the Private group of people who were to raise X amount of money to replace all the bleachers and some other improvements. Well, as you all know, that deal fell flat on its face and has been sitting like a spent greyhound after two back to back races.
Seems that there has been a bit of a sweetheart deal in the making, but I am not really sure yet on who is doing what? But there will be some interesting contracts let with a bunch of bucks paid out.
But as noted, sports seem to be declining and the money could end up more show than go? It is nice for the kids to be able to participate and for others to be able to watch the games. But at what point do we reach the point of diminishing returns on dollars expended versus any hope of ever getting them back?
Mr. Tice noted a need to insure some sort of warranty on work performed? May I hopefully ask on getting worked done timely and on budget too? These Governmental Entities are so prone just to keep throwing money at the proverbial wall and not really caring much if anything sticks? This County has been had big time in the past few years by some of the shenanigans the BOE are or have tried to pull. Now another few million on the line for do what, more work on the Tech Center if I got it right? And now on the Sports Facilities. How many more levies, bonds, etc. are we to absorb? People are getting increases in the hundreds of dollars this year and I don't see anyone but the Government Employees getting the big raises, be it in pay or getting benefit increases paid for by the Tax Payers? 'nuff said'.
