It was such a pleasant surprise to see Mr. Trump off and running today on his Executive Directives to start building the wall; restricting immigration for at least four months while we get a handle on who the Hell is coming in here and why. Then the frosting on the cake; the order going after the "Sanctuary" Cities/ Counties.
I periodically get called by a research company with just one question of the day. Soup du jour is a way of phrasing it also as it is very current. I was asked if I felt safer now that Mr. Trump was President? I replied "not yet as it was too soon". Had I received that call today instead of Monday, the answer would have been "much more so than previous years". It was not an all inclusive set of solutions and may cause some issues with the far left, but it is at least a start.
The Our Opinion column on the 23rd about 'Efforts', was well and good on issues concerning sexual assaults in various scenarios. Some of the positions were a bit iffy to me as far as " witnessed a situation that could have led to a sexual assault? In this day and age of Political Correctness, just looking at someone in some areas is considered "stalking" if the person should catch one staring at her/ him. I will be very honest on this, I have been taught via observation/ reading and just talking to others in years past, that God has blessed many women and men with unbelievable beauty. We do not make statues as per the ancient Greeks/ Romans, but we do paintings sometimes. And any person who can NOT be struck by the beauty or handsomeness of a particular woman or man to the point of maybe looking at them longer than what one may usually observe has a problem with those gifts that God has bestowed on such fortunates?
And I know from experience, that beauty is only skin deep and the person may be absolutely the most miserable in the World in how they think/ behave does not lessen the initial observation. My first wife was a beautiful blonde with blue eyes and the milky skin they sometimes have. She very badly wanted to be a model. It broke her heart when she found out at that time, one had to be 5' 7" and she was only 5' 5". Nowadays, she would have had it made.
In fact, she was what we called a "tow head" because her hair was so blonde. But under that skin was a person who astounded me as the years unfolded. I will say no more as it is very personal, but the point is that she was frequently starred at by other men. I was flattered because at the time, she was the lady in my life and I was proud of her beauty. I never took offense at the staring as I knew what prompted it. If she said something to me, I would then either move her to another location if we were sitting or just go off on our business to stop what was bothering her.
Men are dogs; have been for Millenniums and will continue to be as long as they are on the Earth. Yes, many have been emasculated for the past 25- 40 years and forget what they are? But they will as will some women still "sneak" a peak if the chance allows.
I learned a few decades back that if one looks, one can find beauty in any woman. It may be her smile, her eyes, even the look in the eyes. And one lady fascinated me with her hands; they were just beautiful to look at and I would do so. See "stalking" by today's standards She could not quite grasp what it was I was fascinated by, but I was and can remember to this day.
But I digress and apologize for same. The part of the column I found most surprising was the part where in spite of massive prevention, counseling and money spent on sexual assaults, they have increased. "But, sexual assaults are not being prevented at all" is the cry.
Lets grow up a little bit here and face the fact; they can NOT be totally prevented. The ladies are going to go out with jerks. Some men too if the Truth is known? They get drugged and become victims. Sometimes terribly beaten and even killed. Are they to blame because they did NOT follow some tenet put out in a class? I still naively believe they should have a basic expectation of safety with whomever they are with.
And the worst of all is the one who assaults them as complete strangers. One can be anywhere and some idiot will come after you either because one was really stalked or worse yet, a spur of the moment thing. Life can be very unfair to the young and sometimes the old, but it is sadly life.
And the Poll on "personal experience with State Government..................". This was a 30.36% yes vote. Just think if it was extended to County, City and even NGO's? Look at the person just pleading guilty to embezzling tens of thousands from the ARC of the MOV. High level position, tremendous trust involved and like the Girl Scout women and how many other from School Boards, etc that forgot what their responsibilities really entailed? You know: Morals, Ethics and Integrity. 'nuff said'.
