Was cruising the gut this morning with a friend after some coffee while he was trying to convince me on what is East and what is not? What brought the whole issue up was Rosemar Road and it intersecting into Emerson.
As an aside, when we first went into the coffee place, I went to my left to see if a certain person was there and another fellow said "Hi Lawrence, how are you"? So many people call me Lawrence, and it is so odd to me? My answer to him was "depends on which rumor you are listening too"? He came back with "I'll side with you" and of course we chuckled.
My contention was that when one goes North up Grand Central into Central, one will meet where Rosemar intersects it. At that point, I said one is turning East. After a while, Rosemar will bend around and begin to go South intersecting soon with Emerson. My friend said that in West Virginia, if one starts out going East on a road like Rosemar, it will be East all the way down to Emerson or wherever a road might go. Most funny was he had a Compass on his Dash. And as we made the various turns; East onto Rosemar from Grand Central (Rte 14), and than the turn going down to Emerson, his Compass did exactly what I was telling him. His reply "I never pay attention to that damn thing anyway". Now there was man who would stand his ground in spite of Technology. In the end, we had a good laugh.
As we were going up Grand Central, North, at about 42d, we noticed "Mower" signs. By the time we got to 46th, not a mower to be seen. We wondered what could be getting cut as there is basically no grass that the State would own along there. Then lo and behold the infamous City Truck with Trailer, but still no mower? We continued up the road and my friend asked where the Hell is that mower? I looked ahead and saw a dust cloud up the street. By the time we got to about 57th, there was one of our finest just racing up the median with a huge cloud of dust billowing out behind him. One of two things seems a bit off here:
1. Just how low was the blade on that Mower. The grass did not need mowing yet and the huge cloud of dust certainly bore that out.
2. There is so little work for the guys to do that they have to be put out to mow already? And one wonders why the City catches so much Hell on Staff and wasted money?
Now, it was really funny to see the guy in his orange shirt in the cloud of dust looking at him from the rear as he went North on the South side of the median. See, I probably confused the bejeebers out of you folks too? Maybe one had to see it to appreciate the humor?
Now another thing that went on last Thursday that stirred the pot a bit was Mr. Harris seemingly retiring early in April. He has 22 years with the City in the Parks Department. Mr. Rapp noted he was going into other work opportunities (full time Tour Bus Driver?). Was very surprising at how fast and early he was leaving. My intuition is telling me there is a Page 2 to this story?
Even though Mr. Rapp gave Mr. Harris a cheezy City Certificate of Appreciation, it somehow did not fit the usual procedure when one of the mug wumps leaves? I am not going to voice my suspicions as I have nothing to base a different story, but will wait and see what happens?
Now Mr. Leach was not on the Agenda process for Council Comments Thursday, only Mr. Conley had gotten permission to make any comment, yet away he went just deciding that the new process did not apply to him. Damn but it must be nice to be special?
Than in an item that was on the Agenda, the City decided to "retire" the Canine member of the force as its handler, one Officer Schaad was again leaving employment with the City. For anyone who does not know, the dogs name and title is Officer Dara. Beautiful looking animal that is either a purebred German Shepherd or a mix that resembles one. She is Black as night and would for sure scare the bejeebers out of anyone who she ran down in the dark.
Being 8 years old, Mr. Pifer said she was about at the end of her service life and it was not economical to try and retrain her with another handler. So she is off to retirement as Mr. Schaad's house dog. Woe to anyone going there uninvited.
So that might well explain the "Hiring ad" in the paper on the 25th, for a new Police Officer. And as far as a canine, I am not sure how that will be handled? May be another on staff would want that job or the new guy? Aren't we about time for a woman? Odds are sadly against any woman being able to survive for long in a unit that has decades of men only and the mentality that goes with it? Lot of the Ladies cannot handle locker room humor and other things that rise up in a male group?
The issue on Vienna joining the Opioid Lawsuit(s) going on now is very interesting. Mr. Rapp has vehemently denied over and over that Vienna has any drug problem. In fact our esteemed Mr. Rogers stated that the biggest issue in Vienna just recently was "shop lifting". How quickly times change?
Must be the smell of money in the air. Will bring Mr. Rapp and his crew out of hiding under a rock almost immediately to pursue the dream of "free money".
I noted yesterday that I did not have a phone number for Mr. Elem (don't worry Mike, I am not planning on calling you), and someone was nice enough to advise that when Mr. Conley said he would put his name, contact number on the City Web Site that Mr. Elem spoke up and said his would be too. And then the final sentence: There you go, now you can get hold of Me. Elam.
I am not sure if it was from Mr. Elem or if the writer meant Mr. Elem? If I may, I do remember the comments, but when I went in a day or so later, the Web Site had not been updated and I have not gone back since. Still thank you whomever, kindly for the info. 'nuff said'.
