Could not help but notice the heavier paper the Daily Blat used Sunday. It was a vast improvement and I hope they continue to do that.
Going back again a few days, I am not surprised at the Pleasants Power Plant being sold or shutdown. It was in Truth and so noted that it was nothing more than an attempt to saddle the folks here with more costs while helping First Energy increase their profitability. This is what happens when any business in any industry is allowed a "Guaranteed Return on Investment" instead of a "Return on Investment". Simply put, it allows one to get a profit at a certain level while all the expenses, costs, repairs, rehabilitations, etc., that go on are passed to the users. This sadly is the norm from the PSC here in West Virginia rather than the more acceptable "Return on Investment", which simply put allows a degree of profitability from what is actually done as some sort of improvement/ upgrade. There are other ways one can state what I just did, but it is the general idea and once the PSC put some restrictions on what could or could not be passed to the users, it was no longer a viable asset to them. Sad for those who may lose their jobs, but it is on First Energy, not the PSC which seemed to finally stand up to/for anyone.
Initially, I was pleased at the appointment of a new U.S. Marshall for the Southern District of West Virginia- us. But upon closer reading, I saw where he was a member of the WV State Police. So yet another member of the "Good Ol' Boys" club from one position to another, I fear.
As for impeaching Mr. Loughry off of the WVSC, does it really matter? The whole damn system is so corrupt that does it matter who has the snout in the trough? If one has a right handed thief grabbing out of a cash drawer, or a left handed thief grabbing out of a cash drawer, someone is still being robbed aren't they?
Somehow and honestly I don't have an answer, but somehow the whole WV Judicial System needs desperate revamping from any local level up to the highest State Level. The Legislature needs to write a Law that restricts the ability of any local Judge to arbitrarily rewrite Laws (called legislating from the Bench) and sticking to what is passed/ signed by the Legislature/ Executive Branches. IF and I repeat IF a Law is Unconstitutional, than the Supreme Court can declare it so and stop it cold. But now all we have is bias, partiality and discrimination going on under the guise of Jurisprudence as the "Machine" protects itself.
I noted in the Daily Blat of the 21st, where 10 Doctors in Virginia and West Virginia have been charged by the Feds in over prescribing prescriptions for pain pills. In at least two instances, the patients died.
As before, I say good deal, but where are the big shots in the Manufacturing/ Distribution chains that enabled the massive shipments into West Virginia? When some of these people go to jail for years and their assets are seized to fund the Drug Rehab Centers, until than, there is no real justice for the thousands struggling and the thousands who have/ are dying.
The still to be Monday Work Stoppage unless something changes today (Sunday), needs a firm, hard input by Mr. Morrisey against the Teachers/ Service Workers Unions Leadership. It is against the Law for a Public Employee to strike.
And for the so called Teacher's who say they are teaching the students a point on Free Speech, they need to understand what it really is, is nothing more than a speed class in breaking a Law just because one does not agree with it. This State is allowing itself to be as bad as the most Liberally Progressive ones anywhere in the Nation for setting bad examples as professionals and more importantly the Mentors they are supposed to be to the State Students.
The State should fire the lot of them; break the Unions and hire Teachers back on a one by one basis based on their actual accomplishments in teaching, not attending School on any given day that classes are scheduled.
Having belonged to Unions over the years, I understand the value they bring in helping/ protecting Employees against the vagaries of Management. But there are points where they go beyond that Mandate and begin as the State Judicial System does to legislate from the steps and curbs on the Street. Vote for whomever you wish, but obey the Laws put in place or change them.
And for any of you who missed it, and I am sure many of you did not, the State Medical Marijuana Board is already starting to encourage the Legislature to modify the Law on Legal Purchase of Marijuana to include "Smokable Pot". Didn't take them long to begin to unravel the Magic Bill before it even began. It would also enable a grower to be a processor, plus enlarge the number of "dispensaries" in the State. I am not very smart and will be the first to admit it, but I think I smell money flying through the air? 'nuff said'.
