I would like to bring up a point that may have no real value to most of you. That being the re-order forms that come in many catalogs that you at one time or another did order from. It is not likely they will be the same in an at random one. The point being that the re-order forms will show your current mailing address. BUT, there is usually a proviso to change the delivery address if one were to choose to do so. Why is this an issue you ask? Because if that re-order form is not removed from that catalog and it is just thrown into the recycle or garbage, anyone getting it could reroute an order to another delivery site and you would not know until you got a bill on a previously used credit card or maybe a bill in the mail. May I suggest that these forms be reviewed very carefully and shredded to protect yourself. I just today (Saturday), got in the mail a catalog from a company I have not used for several years with exactly that issue. My correct address but with that option to ship somewhere else. And their merchandise was in may cases not cheap costing up to several hundred dollars.
See where both the MOV Chamber and the W.V. Colleges and Universities went down to Charleston to explain how they are so destitute and short of funds that if required to make any cuts, it would devastate all their programs. Sure, and I am a licensed 747 Plane Pilot. There is so much fat in so many of these programs that it is sad to be kind. The real problem is that the programs that may actually be of value be it the MOV bunch or the very well to do College and University leaders are the ones that are most subject to being cut? Seems that real down to earth offerings are cut almost as a "punishment" to those who are the most dependent and least able to defend themselves.
For the Schools, the solution is to raise tuition. Don't cut/ reduce the overhead or eliminate those programs that lead to degrees that also lead to the graduation students family basement. This is becoming more and more of an issue as the kids rack up huge debt and no jobs. While there are rumors of a rebounding job market, it is not an across the board uptick.
I noted a History Teacher recently and don't remember where she was, but she was getting her SECOND Master's Degree? What does a Teacher in many of the subjects need a B.A. or B.S. plus a Master's to begin with? Simple folks- MONEY, MONEY and more MONEY. They get paid more for additional degrees as well as needed updating in their specialties. I would suggest History is not one of them, let alone a SECOND one. As we all know, History is about what has happened and it is written by the winners while the losers have lived it.
At the same time, Mr. Morrissey and Mr. Warner were espousing on some of the regulations that were being modified or removed that help business and also the effort to remove many of the voters who are not really eligible to vote anymore. At least in some areas where double registration existed; folks had passed or not voted in some time.
Still seems to be some debate on Waverly remaining open? And the need for the threesome that were responsible for that staying in place to explain themselves. All I can read on the issue seem so clear that Waverly was a done deal until the new BOE got all excited and somehow lost the ability to readily read the measure we voted on to begin with. Hopefully, they do get the need for the public hearing at Waverly completely resolved and soon. Close it leave it open if that is a decision; but be prepared to stand up and explain why either way.
I note where Mr. Wells was at the County Commission seeking funds for his "Wine and Jazz at the Point" festival in late September? Most of you in Vienna should remember when the City pumped about $20K into his coffers for a local Jazz event here? Did not do well either year so the City finally pulled the plug to use the money to probably buy votes last year? It is put out that Mr. Wells needs about $6K to conduct his efforts and want to make appearances at local schools to talk about bullying? Since he says one in three of us have been bullied; than one in three of us are probably qualified to talk about it. 'nuff said'.
