> Most obese county: McDowell County
> County obesity rate: 42.1%
> Statewide obesity rate: 35.1% (tied-the highest)
> Adults who do not exercise: 37.5%
> Adults with diabetes: 17.6%
The most sad fact to me above is the State Obesity Rate at 35.1%. And the Adults who do not exercise at 37.5%.
I am pretty comfortable we fall right in there higher than lower? Now since I can admit to being pounds heavier than I need to be, I can call out the lard butts running (driving), around.
Yes, some of us have medical conditions that are conducive to extra pounds from say edema/ diabetes, etc. Doesn't mean we do nothing to try and control any extra pounds we can get a shot at taking off. Every pound off is supposed to be five pounds of pressure off one's knees. I know when I get a few pounds off, my knees hurt a whole lot less when I am walking.
I can go around some and see two or three generations of families where they are just huge and the kids for damn sure don't need those extra pounds now. They will probably stick for the rest of their lives. My girls have the build of their grandmothers/ mothers. Sadly one of my grand parents was a butterball and three of her kids (my Aunts/ Uncles), were over weight. Till I got edema/ diabetes, I was pretty much in the range weight I should be in. One of my daughters takes after my grandmother; the other, the other the thin side of the family.
But to be honest, a lot of my extra pounds came on in the past 25 years since I remarried and my wife loved to cook. And sadly, I love to eat. Now, I have learned to like huge salads versus a steak, baked spud with all the trimmings and a side of corn. The only thing I just wrote about to really eat is the skin on the potato. That is where all the nutrients are located. If I was smart, I would just throw out the inside of the spud.
Point is that so many of us may well not live to bounce those gran babies on our knees or for not very long. Try for them if one can not for themselves. Damn sure worth the effort.
Now, I have watched since last Thursday's City Council Meeting for the report on the business that took place? For some reason, the lad that normally is Johnny on the Spot did not show up. Or even a replacement. Okay, the City does not have a problem submitting a Picture of Himself doing something, even if only patting Himself on the back. So what happened at the meeting that was most noteworthy?
It was if I may the neat trick where the City can now "borrow" up to $50K from the McDonough Foundation. This of course was done under the guise of paying on the Senior Center Expansion that has just happened and well may still be going on in one way or another?
Got themselves a three (3) year loan at 1 1/2%/ year interest rate. And yet again the dog and pony excuse on how the City makes so much money on its sweep/ money market account at 2% that it is better to borrow than just pay outright? More like hiding money for other reasons and using this type of vehicle (loan) to hide it now and over the next two years.?
I have noted before how suspicious it is in how the City/ Mr. Rapp seems to work money from some of the Charities/ Funds for his various projects? But I would also like to give credit where credit is due. As I have reviewed some of those receiving funds, it gives me a good feeling that some of our most in need are getting some help. That I find to be superlative in its result. But, than comes the iffy gifts/ donations/ contributions/ grants (pick a term), to various entities like Vienna that knowing how peculiarly the City Funds get worked that those items are not necessarily valid OR needed?
I have in my stupidity and do admit that I am not very smart questioned the way that City Funds get moved all over Hell's half acre to pay for whatever it wants and cannot seem to budget for when the process is in play? A good example is the $22K estimated for the 93 new cameras that somehow could not be budgeted into the current Fiscal Year and were I believe instead paid for out of other means/ accounts?
The City is furiously trying to complete clean up on the 12th St. VUB site to sell if and as soon as they can. Mr. Rapp is becoming desperate, I question to get funds for that new Park on the lower Johns Manville site. (more on that later)? Seems we have had the property for right on 2 1/2 years and still not much going on overall? Again, I did not say to not buy it, but because of what is coming out now am suspicious that one too many Laws are/ have been broken on the up too this date developments going on down there? You gotta watch Mr. Rapp.; He has little use for any Law/ Ordinance/ authorization that would legally prevent him from his agenda/ legacy?
Had the pleasure (?), of seeing who I believe was our bubbly and effervescent Executive Editor in a local eatery. She looked at me and my coffee bud a few times but not a kind word or even acknowledgement of my willingness to question the Editorial/ news (news and Vienna are an oxymoron as it is called?),Policies of the Daily Blat?
Oh well, "I will survive" to quote Ms. Gaynor of song fame. Lady does not seem to understand that I would be the one hard put to smile and say "cheese". 'nuff said'.
