Last time I talked to anyone from the County was in 2010. Guy came to the door and asked me if I have done any changes. Of course having just moved here a few years earlier, answer was no. But from looking at my yearly tax forms, I had reason to believe that no one had actually incorporated what had gone on from owner 2 to owner 3. I am owner number 5. I asked the guy if he wanted to look around and he said no. Okay, it can not be said I did not offer. So too this day I think I question what they are saying is versus maybe what should be? I don't cheat anyone and will go the extra step to give a person who has a legitimate right to see something to look at it. Vienna Police would be an exception of course. They would need a warrant...................
Now for the tax year starting on 1 July 2016, I am watching to see what happens? The guy was two houses up from me when we pulled in from shopping. Figured out who he was from the clip board (all Government people walk around with clip boards it seems) and he was talking to the lady on the corner. Thought he would come back when he saw us but never did.
Later in the day, I went out to get the mail and saw the little yellow card on the door. Call if you want an internal review or words to that effect. Just shook my head and went about my business. If he could not do it on the day he was two houses up; was not going to expect much more later.
One place I for sure disagree with Mr. Wix is on the three year re-appraisal. IF and I repeat IF the County is going to do that, then it need be a walk through for new whatever that changes the value of a home and most importantly to review what the County has versus the last review.
He is of course right on the waste of money to have someone walk through an area with no real review. An absolute waste of Tax dollars. In Vienna, the Code Department should be more observing of what people are doing. Many additions undertaken and I would believe no permits to upgrade the County records.
And than we have our Ms. Myer with her column on "Reputation for stubbornness". It seems to me as I read her occasional non-cooking; marathon columns that she is prone to divisiveness more than the cohesion West Virginian needs with the rest of the Country. I was not born here; raised here or went to school here and am every bit as stubborn as any one who did the above steps from here.
I am stubborn as Hell when I know things are wrong and need change. I am stubborn as Hell when I know people are being lied too; taken advantage of and generally cheated out of their hard earned dollars. That is why I have finally had enough and decided to try and help all the people in Vienna get treated better and receive more value for their Tax dollars to include reduced Taxes.
She comments on the sacrifices that others say West Virginians must make and a point of telling them how ignorant they are for not realizing it. Than to counter her own position, she notes that she wishes more people in positions to help us carve out a brighter future for ourselves understood it. So in essence if one is not born here; raised here and went to school here, than they have no value to the fine people in this State or any area of it? I would question but what that is a hypocritical and probably stupid position?
As I have noted yesterday, I have been lucky or maybe not, to have been in a lot of places that some will never get to visit. In those places I watched people every bit as hard working and family oriented as here struggle day to day and still die in the same poverty they were born, lived and loved in for the decades they existed. And I have watched the same types of people struggle and succeed to rise up above the hardships to and learn other ways in other places and come back to their homes to help.
And of course others like myself who look for ways to help anyone, anywhere to get a fair shake. I have not as have some had to die or go to prison for trying to make things better; but had been close enough to a Prison in some people's minds to make their mouths water at the thought of getting me under their control.
I am curious on why she is so gung ho to always try it seems to separate the most needful of folks here from the rest of the known World? I know people are not born stupid here; not a doubt on that in my mind. People have because of the successful efforts of some over the decades who engrained a mentality that the folks here are so different that they cannot gain from outside influences and I mean the GOOD ones. I have mentioned before the NCO I served with for a few years at Ft. Lewis Washington who was the slow talking boy from the coal regions who saw where his chance to get ahead was and took it. I from him learned about you home grown West Virginians at least in the Southern part of the State. How they worked hard and long with few of the benefits for many years that others took for granted. Even when the Unions gained power, the necessary safety issues did not get the attention they deserved. But as in all things progress was made and will here in the North West part of the State as well. It will take a willingness to shake of the yoke of " just listen to us at Election time and this time we will do so much better for you folks". The only stubbornness I see is that of trusting too much and not pushing and demanding the improvements we all deserve.
And I could not believe until I read it three (yes three), times the ad by the City of Vienna to Recycle not just now in the wake of the C8 debacle and the thousands of plastic bottles; but ALL the time. Mr. Rapp is again trying to do a CYA for himself because he is so unable to obey State Law and City Ordnance and has been guilty of same as long I suspect as he has been on the City Council?
That ad stinks to high Heaven of hypocrisy and misdirection combined with deceit and deception as to make me laugh more than once. The points are fine; the follow through was, is and will be a joke.
The Rain Garden part smelled to me like a "warning order" on when the new camera truck does its thing and the City begins to get after the folks who have downspouts emptying into the sewer system. That will be the preferred correction; have folks put in those Rain Gardens. City will NOT pay for those Gardens. City will just collect the savings from not paying P'burg for sewage charges.
There will be value added to stop the so called savings of $1 million a year that is expected to not be paid for sewage charges; but who will get the Million? Bet on the City. 'nuff said'.
