If anyone from Mr. Rapp down is too soft to do the job, then quit and let a guy/gal who will bust their butt for the great pay and lucrative benefits step up and in. Sure a 12 hour day is long, but a lot of it is just tedious and boring as one waits for someone to help. Times will be a bit busy but after a while I am watching on TV, folks are standing around. And by your own admission only a couple of months. As for their "regular" jobs; again toughen up and do what you know how to do well.
As a Supply Sgt and later as a Property Book Officer in the Army, the 10- 12 hour day was the norm. In at 6:00 A.M.; usually no lunch and if lucky, out by 4:00 or 5:00 PM. On those days as a Sgt, I was usually off to take a college course one class at a time.
In the real World, whether I was a Distribution Manager, Operations Manager or whatever, it was the same regime. In at maybe 5:00- 6:00 A.M. and out at NO later than 6:00 P.M. Again with no lunch to make sure my guys got their break and someone would be available to help customers coming in.
Now I did this as needed by position for as long as I worked from 20 years of age (Military), to 50 (real world), when I returned to working for the Feds. So when I hear a Government Employee crying about the hours because stuff went south, I have no sympathy.
And at NONE of the above did I earn double time and half for being out on a holiday and whatever they get for over eight hours or on a weekend? Two Holidays at least coming up soon.
Maybe YOU, your Department Heads need to get out and make sure the guys/ gals get their breaks.
1. All of you will show you have something where it counts.
2. All of you will be able to watch to see that everyone is respecting the break schedule. If one takes too long, someone else might well be late for theirs and they all deserve a prompt chance at relief.
In fact, right here and now, I will offer to help with giving the folks their breaks and even a couple of extra hours as I can work it into my schedule. Just stand up and accept the offer or admit you are all about whining? If you need the Red Cross folks; shame on you.
And the City is today (23rd), giving out one (1) case of bottled water? I drove over with a friend this morning and watched two vehicles get their one (1) case. Guys are doing okay; have a tent, cooler and seems chairs. No one working too hard, but as I said maybe tedious and boring. And still as I do this add on at 2:35 P.M. on the 23rd, where did all the water go that was bought up early by the City? And again, why was that lady getting at LEAST three cases while I watched your photo op?
So I may say "shut up or put up"..........................? And I will work for FREE. Now I know if I call to the City Building it will not be accepted by Himself. If I leave a message, it will get "lost". So it is here where I know a whole lot of City folks read my blog. Even if Himself still doesn't reply, I at least have the proof that I tried as I know some of the rest of us in our wonderful City will try if given a chance?
And here is another piece of news on the City buying up water:
Rick Uhl likes a link. 1 hr · (Posted 10:15 A.M. 05/ 21/ 2016)Thank you for the updates, Mr. Wilson! Ive watched the news telecasts since this broke in Vienna. Mr. Rapp needs to get out of the "Public Relations" business! As they say in the big "Washington DC" circles, "There you go again, which side of the fence do you stand on". "wishy washy".... The City of Vienna, WV NEEDS a much better "PR" person, Randy all you are looking for is that d..n microphone and cam time. I have a family member who works for Sams Club, who told me the City of Vienna, was also in there buying up bottled water, to the tune of several flat carts, and city employees hauling it away in a city truck. Go figure... where is this bottled water Randy?????????
Rick Uhl 1 hr (Posted 12:35 5/21/2016) We'll go figure I just went to the John Manville site I just went to the 60th Street location I guess I'm going to head down to the Grand Central Mall evidently there's no bottled water in town being told the newspaper contradicted what the mayor had to say I see two semis parked at the 60th Street location wonder where all the bottled water and went that was bought at Sam's Club and Lowe's that I know of (Apparently Mr. Uhl has gotten himself ticked off on the water?)
And how about that photo op for Mr. Rapp loading cases of BOTTLED WATER into someone's pickup on Saturday's 11:00 P.M. news (Posted 6:30 A.M. 05/22/2016)? Yet, the distribution of the BOTTLED water is set to begin 8:00 A.M. Monday? How many of you folks are getting fed up with the patronage system that Mr. Rapp has practiced here for his entire incumbency? My question who is the lady watching while the water is being loaded. Note: two City Employees plus Himself. Damn good service a couple of days before those with unwashed feet like myself can get any water in bottles? This guy is a disgrace to this City; an absolute disgrace. I have seen that lady who was on TV getting the water somewhere? I think I will post her picture on Facebook and see who can identify her? It is my most sincerest hope/ wish she is caring for about six home bound elderly and getting the water for them? But the old saying to hope/ wish in one hand and do something else in the other and see which hand fills up first is so true here I am afraid?
Allow me to ask; where did this water go in Mr. Uhl's comments? To the whole staff; parts of the staff; how much ended up in the homes of the City Staff? We for sure seem to have a "them" versus "us" in this City? Could be said it is just like in D.C.? Mr. Obama against most of the Country and here we have Mr. Obamalite versus most of the residents. You are getting worse not better Mr. Rapp.
As for the news that Chemours is going to pay/ install the filtration systems for the wells makes sense on doing each well field instead of a central one at 60th as was the plan. Allow me this: As it is said at least two of the wells are losing production capability ( I think 7 & 8), why not drill two new ones and have the new filtration systems installed on them? According to Mr. Metz, does not take long to do the drilling. OR can the filtration systems be easily transferred? Still better to put on new ones to avoid the cost of moving and possible problems later I would think? Maybe that is too much for Himself to think about at this stage? But watch for who will be in front of cameras/ microphones extolling his fine leadership in the near future? No, I am not taking bets. I noted earlier that Chemours giving the 10K cases of water that it pretty much was the smoking gun on who would pay.
And this folks; who is going to pay for the maintenance for the filtration filters on three (3) different locations versus one (1)? These are supposedly very expensive to maintain? Another reason for a rate increase that will hide the true reasons now in place? Again, whether sooner or later, our rates are going up and I don't think it will be by pennies?
How about some TRUE costs on three versus one BEFORE we get too nuts for that camera light?
Now here is something that I found when another issue was sent to me. It is a little old, but the basic Truth of it is still and now more so very relevant. Because we here in Vienna were thought to be above the problem at the time I am not sure how this may have been put out by the Doctors? In fact, it may very well not have been at all as noted below?
ATSDR: Don't let your babies drink the water . . .New advice from the Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry indicates that parents who live near Parkersburg, West Virginia should purchase pre-mixed baby formula instead of mixing powdered formula with water contaminated with C8.
While research is ongoing to determine whether human health is negatively impacted by exposure to the manufacturing substance, the agency cited developmental effects as “the most sensitive adverse response to PFOA exposure”.
Based on their concerns, the agency advises local people to reduce exposure for vulnerable populations (pregnant women, women of childbearing age, children and seniors) as much as possible. It also states that it is prudent public health practice for caregivers in the area to reduce infant exposure by using only premixed baby formula.
The directive was issued to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources on February 10 (2009). Two ATSDR officials were charged with the responsibility of assisting the West Virginia Department of Public Health in communicating the message to area residents and helping them understand the recommendations.
Considering that the directive was not made public by either of the agencies involved, it is not clear exactly how they intended to communicate the recommendations to impacted residents.
